Peristaltic pumps are a type of positive displacement pump widely used across industrial and process applications to accurately move and dose fluids. As a positive displacement pump, a peristaltic pump works by mechanically displacing a fixed volume of fluid, making it ideal when precise flow rate control and repeatability are required, even under high pressure conditions.

A peristaltic pump is a type of pump that uses a flexible tube or hose installed inside the pump head. Rrollers or shoes compress the tube as they rotate, pushing the fluid forward. This operating principle, often associated with roller pumps and hose pumps, means the pumped fluid is fully contained inside the tube. As a result, the fluid never comes into contact with the pump itself or any internal mechanical parts.

Because the only part of the pump in contact with the fluid is the hose or flexible tube, there is no direct contact with the pump casing, seals, or valves. This eliminates cross‑contamination risks and allows peristaltic pumps to handle a wide range of fluids, including abrasive, corrosive, viscous, or solids‑laden media. The fluid remains isolated from the rest of the pump, and equally, the pump components remain protected from the fluid.

Peristaltic pumps offer several key advantages over other types of positive displacement pumps. They are inherently self‑priming, capable of running dry without damage, and provide consistent flow regardless of changes in system pressure. These advantages of peristaltic pumps make them ideally suited for numerous peristaltic pump applications, from chemical dosing and slurry transfer to food processing and heavy‑duty industrial operations.

Food Grade and Hygienic Peristaltic Pump Applications

Peristaltic pumps are particularly well suited for food and beverage processes due to their seal‑less design, low shear pumping action, and easy cleaning. Albin Pump offers peristaltic solutions that meet the strict requirements of sanitary production environments.

OEM and Advanced Industrial Peristaltic Pump Applications

Some peristaltic pump applications require custom integration, high reliability, and tight process control. Albin Pump works closely with OEMs and advanced manufacturers to deliver engineered peristaltic pump solutions for innovative and high‑growth industries.
